Every single one of us has some kind of dream. It might be about who we want to be, a job we want to do, a place we want to visit or a whole host of other things. It’s important to have dreams in order to give ourselves a goal, even if it might be a little bit unrealistic. But is it unrealistic?

Some people will tell you that it is and that you should forget about dreams and write them off as nothing more than flights of fancy. I say they’re wrong, very wrong. You should have dreams and it doesn’t matter how big they are – in fact the bigger the better – you should chase them and do whatever you can to try and realise your dream. Here are some tips as to how you can chase your big dream and get that small step closer to seeing it become a reality.
It can start in a number of ways. You might have an idea randomly or you might be inspired by a magazine article or TV programme that pushes your thought process in the right direction. The important thing is that you recognise that you have found the dream you wish to chase. You need to be 100% certain that this is the dream you’ve waited for – don’t worry you’ll know it’s real when you come up with the big one.
There’s nothing wrong with having any kind of dream. It all starts in our childhood. Perhaps you dreamed of becoming an astronaut or a firefighter. Perhaps you actually realised these dreams. The important thing to remember is that the dream is valid because it’s your dream. Nobody else ever need know about it if you don’t want to tell them. All that remains then is to make it happen. In some instances it might actually be easier than you think.

You should not forget your big dream, but at the same time it shouldn’t take over your life. Not every single thing you do should be geared towards realising your dream, but a lot of things should be. Firstly you will need a plan. When do you want to achieve your dream? Of course you will say “ASAP”, but be realistic. It could be a year, five years or 20 years before it’s possible.
You will need to do a lot of research as to how you will go about achieving your goal. Whatever your dream is, you can bet that somebody else has had the same or similar dream before. You can also bet that they will have shared their secrets in a blog or interview. This kind of information can be invaluable to you.
Once you have a plan you will feel more confident. Things will gradually start to fall into place and as you make progress and move nearer to your dream you will be more capable of achieving it. Maintain a positive mental attitude and the sky really is the limit. Every single bit of progress is still progress, no matter how small. Remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day.
This might sound strange given that you should be filled with positivity, but sometimes even the greatest plans go away. There are a number of reasons this could happen, but it’s important not to beat yourself up over it. If your plan doesn’t work, figure out why. Then you can formulate a new plan, a better plan, and began your quest to achieve your dream once more.
Think of the Beatles or JK Rowling. They’re hugely successful, but they suffered huge setbacks and rejections before making it. It shows that you should never give up. If you truly believe in yourself and your dream, you will know that it’s too important to quit anyway. No matter how many times you get knocked down you need to bounce back again.

You will realise that as you pursue your dream that you are capable of things you didn’t think were possible. We’re not talking about leaping over buildings or anything like that, but you will notice that you possess skills you didn’t think you had. You will discover that you have a lot more focus, determination and tenacity than you ever knew and these are all attributes which will push you onwards towards your goal. You might well feel that you can achieve anything, but it’s not just a feeling. You truly can achieve anything if you set your mind to it.
Once you get into the home straight you’ll see your dream right ahead of you. You might think that the hard part is over and that you can just coast across the finish line at this point, but you’d be wrong. In many ways the final stage is the hardest one. It’s at this point that things will hit you. Things like fear of failure and self doubt. You need to become adept at setting aside these doubts and maintaining your focus. You’ve made it this far and you need to dig deep for one final push.
Just think about how much you’ve impressed yourself up to this point. You’ve already achieved so much and done things you never thought you were capable of. It would be a shame to see it spoiled now. Find that extra gear and go for it. You know that you can do it. Now you just need to ride out the last part and claim your prize.
No matter what anyone tells you, you can dream as big as you want to. Those who try and crush your dream are people who themselves had their dreams crushed and you should ignore them. Remove any negative influence from your life and you’ll see that with the right attitude and commitment that the impossible dream is actually a lot more possible than you initially thought.
